Jar of Memories

One of my 2016 goals is to fill a jar with memories that makes up the entire year. Memories that will explain 2016 in a nutshell, or in this case, a jar. Now this is an idea that I came across while browsing on Pinterest one day (of course). So I can’t take credit for any of it.

Why a jar of memories? Well I have always had the intention of doing something similar to this where you’re constantly working towards something all year round and then, at the end of the year, you take a look at what the year consisted of.

The contents of the jar can be anything you prefer to put in it, such as pictures, quotes, a written explanation, objects, etc that made the year memorable. You fill your jar as the year goes by, and at the end of it, you reminisce on the things that made the year so memorable. It is also up to you if you wish to change up the idea and make it more suitable to your preferences. You may want to add something everyday and that way it will be like a diary. Or you may want to get more creative and create a scrapbook style. If you’re a talented artist -something I am not – you could make art based on your inspirations from the year. In the end, its all up to you as to how creative you want to get with it!

For me, this sort of idea makes me ecstatic in the sense that it gets me thinking what the contents of the jar will be like and what I can add to it. There are endless possibilities as to how I can go about this project. As of right now, the jar consists of written explanations of some of my favourite memories that were already created right after the new year! I can’t wait to add more things and see the jar fill up.

This project got me thinking as to how each and every individual is different and unique. We all differ in experiences. So my jar of memories would be completely different than someone else who decides to give this a try. That’s the beauty of it and although there will be many bad days, you will be able to acknowledge the good ones through your jar of memories.

Creativity is inspiration. Let your imagination run wild and just have fun!

P.S. As I look at my whiteboard calendar in my room, I can’t help but notice I wrote ‘2015’ instead of ‘2016.’ Told you it would take some getting used to writing!
